UserGuide bullet Use Facebook with YateClient

1.In YateClient main window, go to Yate->Add account wizard:

2. Choose Facebook account, like in the screen below:

Don't have a Facebook account? You can sign up right here.

The link provided in this first screen helps you get additional information. See how lower on this page!

3. By default, the next screen will have the "Advanced options" hidden and it will confirm the following:

  • Provider: Facebook
  • Protocol: jabber
  • Domain: chat.facebook.com

4. You will be prompted to log with your credentials - Facebook username and password:

You can check "Save password" option in order to save time and not type it every time you want to log into the Facebook account.

  • Facebook username:
Please, make sure that you have created an username for Facebook. Log in to Facebook (here), go to Account >> Account Settings and then check what is under your username.
If you try to log in with the email address and password that you use for Facebook, you will receive the following message: "Failed to connect account 'jabber:your_email_address@chat.facebook.com' not-authorized."
  • Privacy Settings:
Please check in your Facebook account that the Privacy Settings allow you to connect to an Instant Messaging client.
In your Account -> Privacy Settings -> Customize Settings -> Contact information you should make sure that your "IM screen name" is visible to at least one other person.
If the above setting is on "Only me" option, then YateClient will provide a "not-authorized" error when you try to log in Facebook chat.

After you added the details of the Facebook account in YateClient, whenever you want to log in, you can do so by using Settings->Accounts in the main menu.

Go back to adding more accounts or start using YateClient.

You can go to http://www.facebook.com/sitetour/chat.php to get from Facebook additional information that you might need to connect using YateClient.

  • Find on the page and click the "Other - Windows/Mac/Linux" link shown below:

  • At this point you will be required to log into your Facebook account.
  • After that, you will have displayed the following information:
  1. Protocol: XMPP or Jabber
  2. Username:__your_username_here__
  3. Domain: chat.facebook.com
  4. Jabber ID: your_username@chat.facebook.com
  5. Password: <your Facebook password>
